The famous singer, songwriter and raconteur is helping the satcaster program its new music channel, renamed Willie's Place. He'll be providing creative direction and contributing exclusive programming for the new channel and other XM commercial-free music channels. "Like the channel itself, Willie embodies the heart and soul of country music. His involvement further underscores XM's commitment to country music nationwide with the most country channels and innovative content for country fans," said XM's Executive Vice President of Programming Eric Logan. Southern gospel and contemporary Christian music icon Bill Gaither is getting Sirius.

"Bill Gaither's Homecoming Radio" begins on 9 July for the satcaster and features three hours of classics and new music from the southern gospel genre. "I am very excited for this opportunity to team up with Sirius to take encouraging, positive music to their many listeners on a weekly basis," said Gaither. Europeans are finally catching on to HD Radio.

Broadcast Electronics (BE) has announced the purchase of a BE HD Radio system by Swiss station 88 Radio Sunshine. This marks the first HD Radio system sold in Europe and successfully concludes several months of HD Radio testing in the mountains of Switzerland, where FM stations are spaced 100 kHz apart in the spectrum.     more>>

Show biz bible Variety is getting Sirius.

The publication is teaming with the satcaster to launch a radio news bureau that is expected to provide the latest entertainment to Sirius listeners. Said Sirius President of Entertainment and Sports Scott Greenestin, "Variety Radio News will become as indispensable to the industry as the magazine itself, and also make it possible for anyone in the country to be as up-to-date as any movie insider." Bob Dylan's going into the Baseball Hall of Fame, courtesy of XM.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is adding to its archive the "baseball" episode from the singer-songwriter's music XM show. The program contains Dylan singing an a capella rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," along with classic baseball calls such as Russ Hodges proclaiming "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!" Without XM, Dylan would have had to be satisfied only to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.     more>>

"From The National Press Club" is expected to feature broadcasts with international and national guest speakers as well as other events taking place at the "Club." Sirius is going to Wimbledon to provide comprehensive live radio coverage from the All-England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. Tim Ryan is hosting nightly Wimbledon recap shows from the beginning of the famous tournament through the Women's and Men's Finals on Saturday and Sunday, 8 & 9 July.
