Although all satellite radio receivers should be capable of reproducing sound in accordance with the system specifications there may be differences among the vendors. Both automobile and home units should be available, with portable models following shortly after the systems go on-line. Unless you're planning to buy a new car from Daimler-Chrysler ( Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler products), BMW , or Ford , you'll have to purchase an aftermarket unit from Kenwood Motorola , Clarion , Audiovox , Alpine , Mitsubishi , Delphi , which is demonstrating its mobile multimedia products at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, or Jensen , which recently announced an upcoming lineup of Sirius-enabled car audio equipment.
BMW is also offering their service to new car buyers. Their radios are available in select 3, 5, and X5 series vehicles. PR Newswire reported that a recent JD Power survey showed BMW owners as among the most likely early adopters of satellite radios. RUsirius.com has noticed that BMW owners also seemed to be among the first to adopt cell phones and GPS receivers.

RUsirius.com invites comments from all site visitors on the Sirius lineup of equipment and vendors.  We'll be posting all germane criticisms and reviews below.

A satellite fan with both XM and Sirius says (posted 6 May 2003):

"I have had XM for one year now...and just added Sirius 1 week ago. the XM is the Sony PNP and Panasonic is for Sirius.  I much enjoy both but will say the audio quality of Sirius surpasses XM significantly.  If you enjoy lots of listening I would recommend the Sirius, but for versatility the XM is better since their PNP comes with boombox for use just about anywhere. "

A Sirius listener with a new Jensen unit tells us (posted 5 May 2003) :

"I just installed my Jensen Sirius Radio last night. All I can say is WOW, such great sound and programing. I was reading some of the other comments about the company having hard times, I sure hope they make it because I don't want to have to go back to listening to standard am/fm radio. Keep up the good work Sirius."

A Sirius Audovox owner says (posted 2 May 2003):

" I have had my Sirius unit for two weeks now and I am in LOVE!!!!! I got the Audiovox unit free with this promotion they are currently running and I wanted to let you know about it. It's called 'adopt a dog'. You, or anyone else who would like more info, can go to http://www.johnchino.com/adoptadog.htm "

Someone with a little more knowledge than we have about Sirius' products offers this correction to our listings (since corrected) above (posted 12 September 2002):

"I applaud the owners of this web site for their support and enthusiasm for Satellite Radio.  It is this type of support and enthusiasm that will allow Satellite Radio to be a revolutionary success.  However, under the section of Sirius Stuff, subheading Equipment and Affiliated Vendors, there is a major oversight. There is no mention of Kenwood as an affiliated vendor or product partner for Sirius.  Kenwood has been and is a major product partner for Sirius Satellite Radio and should be referenced as such."
